When a soldier in Vietnam left a combat base like a FSB (Fire Support Base) as part of a patrol or on a CA (Combat Assault) they would be \"outside the wire\". What they carried in their ruck, pockets and in bandoliers would need to be enough to support them before resupply via choppers. Personal items would be kept in a 5.56 or 7.62 ammo box as these were waterproof. The rest of the equipment would be ammo, water, c-rats, batteries for the PRC-25 radio. \n\n<\/pre>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
